What does Born Again mean?
Jesus was asked by a man, “What must I do to be saved?”
Jesus said, “You must be born again.”
Each one of us on the planet has been born once, of our mother and father. There is another birth available to each one of us. It is the birth of the spirit. You are a spirit being, occupy a soul and body. You were created by God to have a relationship with Him. It’s up to you to decide you want that relationship.
Your sin, and mine, stands in the way of us knowing God. The only remedy for that sin is to ask to be forgiven by the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ, God’s own Son Who came to planet earth for the express purpose of defeating sin, death, and the devil for us.
He did this amazing feat through His sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, and resurrection from the dead. He has returned to Heaven, but the Holy Spirit has been sent to us as “place holder”.
You are an eternal being. You will live forever, somewhere. God wants you to come live with Him, but you can’t get into the holy home of God with the baggage, “sin”, you carry, which was deposited in you through your DNA. The only solution is that you become a brand new person!
How do we become a new person, free from the contamination of sin? God made it easy for us. Here’s a sample prayer you can pray:
God in Heaven, I know You are holy. You sent Your Son to rescue me. I’ve tried to hide my sin, cover it, deny it, outrun it, medicate it. But nothing has worked. I know I need a Savior. The only Savior of the world is Your precious Son, Jesus. Thank You, Jesus, for the price You paid for me. I receive Your blood sacrifice, and ask that I would be filled with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You!
John 1:12&13. To as many as received Him (Jesus) He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name… born not of flesh, but of God.
